The winding resistance is measured on the principle of voltage drop. A specific DC current is passed through the equipment under test, the potential drop across the circuit is measured by the “millivoltmeter” which is directly indicated in micro-ohms. The instrument comprises of a constant voltage/current DC source having capacity of 300 VA/10A, an ammeter to indicate the current and “milli-voltmeter” calibrated in micro/milli-ohms for measurements, along-with the necessary terminals and switches, housed in an aluminium cabinet.
The unit will display the Resistance of the winding as well as the CURRENT flowing in the circuit. The protection against back EMF of the transformer has been provided. On switching OFF the “Output” switch or break in the current circuit, the discharge circuit will automatically come into operation. The discharging will be indicated by a glowing LED. The flow of current during testing is indicated by the continuous sound of the buzzer. Discontinuity in the OLTC or the current circuit will be indicated directly by an LED which starts glowing and the stoppage of buzzer.
